Saint John's Wort and the Summer Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice and day of the sun! Fittingly the mood lifiting, stress relieving Saint John's Wort flowers bloom just this time of year!

Portrait of Nina Alexandra Nutrition Consultant hold a bouquet of Saint Johns Wort herbs

St. John's Wort is named after the healing saint John The Baptist and if you crush the flowers together you get a red substance that represents his "blood." This signature, as it's called in herbalism, helps to remember that St. John's Wort is a vulnerary for wound healing and analgesic for pain relief. It is also an anti-inflammatory, a hepatic (cleanser) for the liver, a mood lifter, and stress relieving nervine.

It's VERY IMPORTANT to note, however, that it is such a strong her that it can interfere with perscription medications, so check with an herbalist, nutrition consultant, or healthcare provider before using it. If you would like to work with me to understand which herbs would be beneficial to your body (and which ones to avoid!) schedule a FREE virtual introductory session today.

Now, go forth and frolic in the golden glory of the sun and enjoy the longest day of the year!
