Have you heard about the infradian rhythm?
Everyone, regardless of their ovary and uterus status, has a 24 hr circadian rhythm (a hormonal cycle that is completed in one day). BUT, did you know that menstruating people also have an infradian rhythm which takes about a month to complete? It is broken down into 4 phases: the follicular, ovulatory, luteal, and menstrual phase.
This cycle has external and internal expressions (think basal body temperature, cervical mucus, skin, energy, mood, PMS, etc.) which, if paid attention to, can tell us a lot about a person’s overall health.
From a fertility perspective, knowing the signs of your infradian clock can help you determine what sexual or reproductive activities you want to engage in and when.
From an energy and mood standpoint, knowing where you are in your cycle can help you plan, and respond to activities, relationships and to-do lists with more ease.
Food, lifestyle, and sleep can all affect how an infradian cycle is expressing itself.
For my menstruating clients who want to improve their energy or pms, either avoid or increase their chance of becoming pregnant, or who want to get a better sense of what their cycle is trying to tell them, I help to find ways of applying these skills to their unique circumstances so they can live their best lives.
